The Grotto

Are you planning to travel to Portland, Oregon? Have you made a list of the places that you would like to visit? If you already have then you must definitely add one more stop in your city travel of Portland. Although this stop is a religious one, you don't really have to be catholic or religious to visit this place. The place we are talking about is The Grotto Portland. It is a destination that will enhance your Portland trip and will make it even more memorable.

The Grotto Portland is actually a holy place or rather a sanctuary that was built by the Grotto community in dedication to Mary, Our Sorrowful Mother. The Grotto is actually a shrine built by Fr. Ambrose Mayer, OSM. When his mother survived through a difficult child birth, he promised God that he would do something in his service, in order to show his gratitude. And hence this shrine was created in 1924 in Portland. Portland was earlier not known to be a catholic city but the emergence of this shrine changed all that for Portland.

It is built in a very scenic place, and that may be one of the reasons why so many non catholic tourists also get attracted to the Grotto.

This sanctuary is set at the foot as well as at the top of the hill. It is a very calming place and can really serve as a spiritual stop on your Portland journey.

It has a really huge meditation hall as well, and hence it doesn't matter whether you are a catholic or not. Meditation can be carried out by everyone. And meditation at the Grotto, is one hell of a calming experience.
