Plan a Road Trip to Portland? Guide to Maps, Route and More
Portland, also known as the City of Roses is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest of America. Lies approximately 70 miles from the coast on the Northern Border of Oregon State, Portland is best known for its amazing skyline with the majestic Mount Hood as the backdrop, the scenic beauty and its environmentally friendly urban policies.
As a tourist destination, Portland is accessible by most transportation. The airport is an international airport with most major airlines of the world served. It is also accessible by trains that serve both long and short distance travel throughout Northwest America.
If you're travelling to Portland with a car, the easiest way to go is through the Interstate 5 if you are from the north. This road goes over the Willamette River and into downtown Portland. Coming from the east, the best way is the Interstate 84 that leads along Columbia into Portland, while the western car commuters can go to Portland through the U.S. 26 that cuts directly towards Portland between the Cannon Beach and Seaside.
Once you get to Portland, there are many ways to get around in the city, but driving is not something recommended. There are heavily congested spots around town and it's hard to find parking areas. Walking is much preferable option for tourist who wanted to go around and enjoy a scenic walk. Going from one end of downtown to the other only took 15 minutes, which is much quicker than driving most of the times. Biking is also a comfortable means of going around in this city, again due to the congested traffic.
