Located on the east bank of the Willamette River, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is infused with breathtaking waterfront views. After stepping into the OMSI, you'll find it's obviously a great place for the curious. It contains five different specialized exhibit halls, a submarine exhibit - USS Blueback and a planetarium. The museum is also home of a large auditorium, which usually hosts annual events like science fairs. An OMNIMAX theater is anchored at OMSI as well.

The five-story domed screen covers an area of 6,532 square feet of projection surface stadium seating. The IMAX Theater can accommodate up to 315 audiences. The theater employs a 2D IMAX projection system, using the largest frame in the motion picture system. You can imagine each frame is 10 times as large as the size of standard 35mm film. As for the sound system, a custom-designed 15,000 watt digital sound system is utilized at the theater. The OMNIMAX Theater is the first theater in the northwest dedicated to IMAX films.
Does the OMNIMAX Theater charge extra fees? Undoubtedly, the IMAX Theater needs extra admission, which is absolutely worth your money. General admission for each movie played at the theater is $6.5. Children between 3-13 and seniors over 63 years old enjoy a discounted admission of $6.5. Museum members can always receive $1 off the regular admissions.
If you do not have an annual pass, it might be a little expensive for a family trip to the theater. In fact, you can get some discounts with just a little more efforts.
Special Evening Price - Any movie at the OMNIMAX Theater after 6 PM until close does charge the same admission ticket price of $6, saving up to $2.5 off general admission. The member discount of $1 can be used together with the special offer. Members only need $5 for a movie after 6 PM. How amazing!
Group Visits - Discounted group rates are offered for parties of 12 people or more on weekdays. Teachers, children, seniors and chaperones only need to pay $5 per ticket while adults and college students purchase tickets at a price of $7. Please note that group discounts are only available on weekdays with at least 14-day advance reservation. Group reservations cannot apply to national holidays. Sea Rex - The power of IMAX makes it possible to take a magical adventure from the dinosaur age with "Sea Rex: Journey to a Prehistoric World". The heroine, Join Julie, travels from a modern aquarium to three different prehistoric periods: the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
