Ranking as the oldest art museum on the West Coast, the Portland Art Museum has a long history of nearly 120 years. The museum is also one of the twenty-five largest art museums in the nation with an area of 240,000 square feet. The Portland Art Museum features separate centers for Native American art, Northwest Art and modern & contemporary art. Permanent exhibitions of Asian art are also on display at the museum. 1) Temporary Assistant Preparator
Temporary Assistant Preparators are now needed. Essential functions of the positions include assistance in all aspects of exhibitions, workshop & galleries maintenance and shipping and receiving of artworks and more. Qualified candidates must have the ability to construct from working drawings to objects in wood or other materials. These temporary positions require weekends and evening working hours and start on May 23, 2011. Compensation ranges from $11 to $12 per hour, depending on experience.

2) Event Security Officer
The part-time job works about 19-27 hours each week. To accommodate event scheduling, the position may require work hours including holidays, weekends and evenings. Payment is $11 - $12 per hour according to experience. The position is responsible to Production Events Manager and aims to protect the museum's cultural property and offer a secure museum environment for visitors and staff. To qualify the position, you must have excellent personal grooming and verbal & written communication skills. Ability to lift 50lbs in any emergency is essential.

3) Custodial Technician
The Portland Art Museum seeks a full-time custodial technician. The position works to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the buildings in the museum, including all carpeted areas, museum grounds, public spaces and many other locations. The position works 40 hours a week from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm, Sunday through Thursday. The pay rate is $9 each hour.

4) Production Hand for Set-Up Crew
This is a full-time position with compensation of $10 - $11 per hour. The Production Hand offers production labor for museum and outside events, including set-up and loading in & out of any furniture and equipment for events. Please note that the job is physically demanding. Qualified candidates must be able to work effectively with museum personnel and general public. A flexible work schedule and ability to lift up to 50 lbs are a must.

5) Associate Director of Catering and Event Sales
This is a full-time, exempt level position, which is responsible for making maximum net revenue through the sales of event space and related catering and other services. The job directly reports to the Director of Operations. Required experience includes:
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- A minimum of 5 years management experience. Experience in food service or hospitality is a plus.
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office suite and online navigation.
- Proven financial experience and ability.
- Strong business and selling skills.
- Confident and professional in presentation.

1) Allure of the Automobile Interactive Speakers
The museum will hold the Allure of the Automobile in June 2011. Volunteers who enjoy cars are needed in the galleries. Their responsibilities include informative communication with guests to the exhibition. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills and can work weekend shifts. Automobile enthusiasts are preferred. The volunteer opportunity is committed to one 3 hour shift per week.
2) Switchboard Volunteer
The museum is seeking switchboard volunteers to provide customer services to guests who call the museum. Their primary responsibilities are to answer phone calls and answer basic questions about the museum. Clear articulate English speaking skills are a must.
3) Guest Services Volunteer
Exhibition volunteers are responsible to greet and welcome visitors to the museum. Guest service volunteers sometimes need to distribute audio guides and check tickets. The position has shift commitments of three hours a week, once a week.

In addition to volunteer and job opportunities, the Portland Art Museum offers a wide range of internships for undergraduate and graduate students. Interns are provided with great opportunities to gain invaluable working experience at the museum. Two current internship opportunities are available.
1) Human Resources Internship
The position aims to help the Human Resources Manager and get hands-on experience with different HR competencies. This is a part-time internship with a flexible work schedule. The position is unpaid, but has many perks, including free museum admission. HR internships are available for application for Spring and Summer.
