Guide to Portland Japanese Garden- A Haven of tranquil Beauty
After the formation of the Japanese Society of Oregon in early 1960's, the City Council established a tribunal that was responsible for establishing the site of the Garden. The garden was then designed by A Tokyo Agricultural University professor who specialized in Japanese garden designs. The Japanese garden opened it gates to the public in 1967 for the first time and they were able to sample the great images created by the great combination of pants, stones and water.
The Five Gardens:
Visitors to the garden should ensure that they visit the five gardens and sample their unique characteristics. These gardens include the Flat garden, which is a combination of flat planes, stones and clipped shrubbery. The strolling pond garden consists of upper ponds that features a moon bridge and lower ponds with a zigzag bridge, and are connected by a stream and are set on a backdrop of a waterfall.
The tea Garden features a wooded setting and a stony pathway. The natural garden features deciduous plants and are meant to make the visitors relaxed and reflective while the Sand and Stone Garden contains raked sand or gravel and stones.
Visiting Portland Japanese Garden:
The garden is open to visitors Monday through Sunday all year round with exceptions of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Visitors need to check out the Garden's website to find out about the different events and opening hours per the seasons.
