A Tour Guide to OMSI: A Museum of Science & Industry in Portland

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is known by its acronym OMSI and located in downtown Portland. This museum is an indeed a delight to visit with permanent exhibits which can be handled by the visitors and most of the topics of science and industry are covered for the curious mind. The kids find this place enjoying and learning experience.

Along with permanent exhibits the OMSI has a number temporary exhibits being displayed across the year. Form the deep space to subsea OMSI has answers to all the questions of curious mind. It houses a planetarium and a submarine which is docked at pier near the museum. The OMSI has the only OMNIMAX Theater in Portland.

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry was established in 1944 and has been major tourist destination in Portland since 1950. The location of the museum was shifted twice as it outgrew itself.

The permanent exhibits at OMSI include Chemistry Lab which exhibits and demonstrates to the visitor how chemistry is a part of one daily life. The life science hall is particularly interesting as it houses hum fetuses at nearly every stage of development. The earthquake house exhibits the effect of the earthquakes and the protections one can take to prevent damages from the disaster. Along with these science halls one can walk into the submarine and get a feel of the machine and how it feels to be inside.

The museum is open to public from Tuesdays to Sundays between 9:30 am in the morning to 7 pm in the evening. On Mondays OMSI is closed to public.
